JLB review: La Corte Bistro, Cape Coral
At La Corte Bistro in Cape Coral, the worn-down Brew Babies space has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind dining experience.
The way the light plays off the intricate detailsof the circular medallions arranged along the wall.
The way the newly manicured courtyard glows come sunset.
The way the server, with his New Yawk accent, picks a cabernet that pairs just as well with your osso bucco as it does your guest’s lasagna.
It’s these little things that make La Corte, La Corte.
This 2-month-old Cape Coral bistro nails what so many restaurants here overlook. Just when you think service is dead — or at best on life support and heavy meds — along comes Mark, the bald New-York waiter who knows his cabernet sauvignons from his cabernet francs, and who’s happy to guide you through the menu’s highlights while pacing each course just so.
Walking into La Corte Garden Bistro is like entering a lovely, funky chic paradise that begs to be explored. Multi roomed, loaded with character, it’s filled with warmth and understated elegance.
Three couples collaborated to acquire the former Brew Babies, transforming it into Cape Coral’s newest fine dining restaurant. Co-owners, Angela and Vincenzo Palmese, Tania and Alex Vitali, Sabrina Fontanili and Michael Bodetti are not only close friends, they refer to themselves and to their customers, as family. These couples bring separate and extensive experience to the enterprise; restaurant, business and interior design. Bodetti calls the group, “a synchronized package.”

New restaurant coming to old Brew Babies space, La Carte Bistro
On Lafayette Street in Cape Coral, small piles of rubble, stacks of furniture and orange construction fencing dot the property. Brew Babies closed this summer and the restaurant was sold to business partners Michael Bodetti, Alex Vitali and Vincent Palmese.
“There are several projects going on at once,” explained Bodetti. “We’re doing quite a bit of renovations. It’s a catchy situation. On one hand we don’t take away the beauty of it…it’s one of the nicest places with the courtyard and gardens and separate little rooms.”
Exterior changes are happening as well. The old archway that once greeted guests was torn down and a new Tuscan-style one will be constructed soon. New landscaping is coming to the courtyard and a fireplace will be installed on the back wall, featuring a salvaged mantel.
Chef Tim Spain is crafting a menu featuring European-American food. “He is very excited. He loves the place and will bring it to a whole different level,” Bodetti said. There are plans to keep some popular items from Brew Babies’ menu but with Spain’s personal touches.
The new chef is a key part of the elements that Bodetti believes are essential to the success of a restaurant. “Environment is one, and we do think this is going to be one of the top environments in the area, with indoor and outdoor seating and a funky, chic design which brings you somewhere between New York City and New Orleans,” Bodetti explained. “Culinary experience is one, and Chef Tim is very focused on using high quality ingredients with a healthy approach to food without giving up taste. Entertainment is another, and we will have live music on a regular basis. And the one thing that pulls it all together is customer-service-focused servers.”
La Corte has a tentative opening date set for mid-September. Bodetti and his partners are on site, working each day to make that opening a reality.
“We are keeping the charm of it but we are updating a lot of things, freshening it up,” Bodetti said. “Our hope is to draw people from as far as Naples and other surrounding areas and bring them into Cape Coral.”
